Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday condoled the deaths of 14 people and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured after a big hoarding collapsed in Mumbai`s Ghatkopar area.

“Deeply pained by the tragic incident wherein several people have lost their lives by a hoarding collapse in Mumbai`s Ghatkopar. Our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Several people have been injured, and we pray for their complete and speedy recovery,” Kharge posted on X.

He further expressed his solidarity with all the victims and urged the authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

“We express our solidarity with all the victims and urge the authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and compensation to all the victims. Congress workers in the area should also extend all possible help,” he added.

Ghatkopar hoarding collapse: Death toll rises to 14

National Disaster Rescue Force, assistant commandant Nikhil Mudholkar said that a total of 88 people were rescued, of whom 14 were declared dead by doctors, reported ANI.

“A total of 88 people were rescued, of whom 14 were declared dead by doctors and 31 were discharged… The problem is that we are unable to use our gasoline-based cutting equipment because there is a petrol pump here. Two NDRF teams are present here,” he said, reported ANI.

Notably, Mumbai police have registered a case under IPC 304, 338, 337, and 34 against owner Bhavesh Bhinde and others at Pantnagar police station.

Ghatkopar hoarding collapse: Maharashtra CM announces an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. Shinde also said that the government will bear all expenses for the treatment of those injured.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar have condoled the deaths of people and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Ghatkopar hoarding collapse: Mumbai police chief assures strict action against those responsible

Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has said stringent action will be taken against those responsible for the hoarding collapse incident in the city.

Phansalkar visited the spot late Monday evening where he spoke to reporters and assured of action against those responsible for the incident.

In a post on his official X handle on Monday, Phansalkar said, “Heartfelt condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate mishap at Ghatkopar. @MumbaiPolice team is on the spot in the rescue operation. We assure citizens that stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible for this mishap.”
