A timber mart and three commercial units were gutted in a fire in Maharashtra`s Thane city in the early hours of Friday, the civic officials said.

They said that no casualties were reported in the incident, an official said, reported the PTI.

According to the news agency, the blaze erupted in the Mumbra area of the city around 5 am, following which the fire brigade and the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) were pressed into service, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

The fire destroyed a timber mart, four huts, 15 two-wheelers in a spare parts shop and two commercial units dealing in scrap materials, he said, as per the PTI.

The blaze was brought under control in an hour at around 6 am, and the cooling operations by the civic authorities were completed by 8.30 am, the official said.

He added that the cause and source of the fire were yet to be ascertained and the investigations were underway.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a fire broke out in the office in industrial complex in Thane city early Thursday morning, an official said, reported news agency PTI.

No person was injured in the blaze, he said, adding that two rooms on the first floor of a two-storey building in the industrial complex suffered damages, reported PTI.

The fire broke out at 4.32 am in the engineering office of Supertech Instrumentation Service (I) Pvt Ltd at the Vardhaman Industrial Complex in Gokul Nagar, Thane Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.

Furniture, fixtures, materials, air-conditioning units, documents and computers were damaged in the affected office rooms, each spanning 1,200 square feet, after the fire broke out in office in industrial complex, reported PTI.

The Plaster of Paris ceiling in one of the rooms collapsed during the incident, the official said, reported PTI.

After being alerted, local firefighters and the disaster management cell team rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control by 6 am, he said, reported PTI.

The cause of the fire is was being investigated.
