Five minor Navi Mumbai girls from two different families in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra have gone missing, police said on Monday, reported news agency PTI.

The police have launched a search for the Navi Mumbai girls, who went missing from the Lucky Complex in Taloja area on Saturday, they said, reported PTI.

Two sisters, aged 14 and 16, left for school on Saturday morning and did not return home, an official from Taloja police station said, reported PTI.

In another incident, three siblings, aged 5, 7 and 14, went missing from their house in Taloja, he said, reported PTI.

Based on a complaint, the police on Sunday registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 363 (kidnapping) and efforts were on to trace the Navi Mumbai girls, the official said, reported PTI.

In another case, police have arrested a man from Navi Mumbai township in Maharashtra for allegedly raping his 15-year-old niece following which she became pregnant, an official said on Monday, reported PTI.

The 34-year-old accused, hailing from Nerul in Navi Mumbai, is the maternal uncle of the girl, reported PTI.

He allegedly raped the girl in his house on October 4, 2023, the official from Nerul police station said, reported PTI.

The girl later complained of some health issues and she was admitted to a hospital in Govandi area of neighbouring Mumbai where it came to light that she was pregnant, he said, reported PTI.

The hospital authorities reported about it to the Nerul police following which the accused was arrested on Sunday and booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against three persons for allegedly cheating a 50-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra of Rs 18 lakh by promising jobs to her son and son-in-law in a state-owned company, an official said on Sunday, reported PTI.

The victim had got to know about the accused through one of her acquaintances.

To gain the confidence of the woman and her kin, one of the accused showed them an ID card purportedly belonging to the company and claimed he worked there, the official from Rabale police station said, reported PTI.
