The Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch Unit 5 has apprehended a Chhota Rajan aide who was involved in a dacoity case. According to the police, the case dates back to 1994, when five people from Chhota Rajan’s gang had entered a Chembur-based real estate agent’s shop with the intention to commit dacoity. The police had apprehended all of the five accused back then.

The court had then granted them judicial custody for five years. However, four of them managed to flee. Three of them died in an encounter, while the fourth accused, Sakir Lakhani, escaped to Gujarat

“After a lot of technical investigations with inputs from reliable sources, we traced his whereabouts to Surat. We subsequently arrested him on October 7 as the court had issued a non-bailable standing warrant against him,” said a police officer. “He worked with Chhota Rajan and lived in Antop Hill before shifting to Surat,” he added.
