A lot of students plan to move abroad for higher studies to secure high-paying jobs and better opportunities. Today, with the onset of different embassies in India, it has become easier to get a visa for the country of our choice. According to the report of the Ministry of External Affairs, in 2022, the number of Indian students studying abroad is more than 13 lakh, whereas in 2017, the number was around 5 lakh.
To study abroad, the candidates have to certain basic exams. One of them is TOEFL. Apart from this, there are other exams too such as IELTS, GRE, SAT, GMAT, PTE and MCAT.
The college decides the eligibility of the candidate on the basis of the score obtained in one of these exams. All these tests are conducted to test the English and technical skills of the students. Most students usually opt for the TOEFL exam. It is conducted by the Education Testing Service (ETS). More than 10,000 universities, colleges and agencies around the world recognise TOEFL scores.
TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. The exam aims to check the student’s ability to read, write, speak and listen Engish. It is organised more than 60 times a year. The results are released 10 days after the exam. The colleges decide the benchmark score to become eligible for the application process. Some college asks for a minimum score of 90 while some asks for a minimum mark of 70 on the TOEFL.

The total duration of the test of 2 hours. Another format is Paper Based Test known as TOEFL PBT. It also evaluates the student in the same sections. It includes 140 questions and one essay topic.
