Train services between Kalyan and Kasara sections in Maharashtra`s Thane district, which is adjacent to Mumbai, came to a halt on Wednesday afternoon. The stoppage was caused by a track changing point failure at Kalyan station due to heavy rains in the area, according to a senior railway official.

In response to the situation, the Central Railway diverted certain mail and express trains via the Diva-Panvel-Karjat route and the Daund-Manmad route. Additionally, a few trains between Mumbai and Pune were either short-terminated or canceled.

The heavy downpour in Mumbai and its neighboring Thane district contributed to the disruption of train services on the Kalyan-Kasara section. The point failure incident occurred at approximately 2.40 pm, as reported by Dr. Shivraj Manspure, the chief public relations officer of the Central Railway, according to the PTI.

Prior to this point failure, suburban services between Kalyan and Khopoli (in Raigad district) had already been affected due to submerged tracks between Ambarnath and Badlapur stations in Thane, starting from 11 am.

As a result of these issues, train operations on the Kalyan-Kasara section were completely halted.

Earlier in the day, a railway official reported that the “Badlapur-Ambarnath section (UP + DOWN)” had to be closed for traffic at 11.05 am due to water-logging.

Furthermore, train services on the Panvel-Belapur Harbour Line route were impacted by a “point failure” at Panvel at 9.40 am, but they were successfully restored by 10 am.

The Central Railway manages local train services on its Main Line, running from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai to Kasara in Thane and Khopoli in Raigad district. Additionally, it operates suburban services on the Harbour Line, covering the stretch from CSMT to Panvel (Raigad) and Goregaon.

“Today on 19/07/2023 due to water-logging after heavy rains, all down-bound and up-bound local train services from CSMT Railway Terminus are being diverted to Dombivli Railway Station till further notice,” an official said.

Trains stopped at Chiplun as Vashishthi river breaches danger mark

On Wednesday afternoon, train services operated by Konkan Railway in Chiplun, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, were suspended due to the Vashishthi river surpassing the danger mark as a result of continuous rainfall.

The PTI reported, L K Verma, the chief public relations officer of Konkan Railway, stated that water levels had risen above the danger mark on the Vashishthi railway bridge, leading to the precautionary suspension of train services.

Specifically, the Kochuveli-Indore Express was brought to a halt at Chiplun station, but fortunately, no train was stranded on the Vashishthi railway bridge at the time of the suspension.
