SRINAGAR: Security forces thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K for the second consecutive day, killing two terrorists in Machil sector of the northern Kupwara district on Wednesday morning, while terrorists shot dead a forest department employee in Pulwama.
The two terrorists were neutralised during a joint operation by the Army, BSF and police, a tweet by the Chinar Corps said. The identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.
Four AK rifles, six hand grenades, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), five UBGL grenades, nine magazines, 175 AK rounds and tactical vests were among the “war-like stores” recovered from the spot.
The gun battle took place a day after four “foreign” terrorists were gunned down along the LoC in Poonch district.
In south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, terrorists fired at and injured two forest department employees at a check-post, set up near Bangender bridge in Rajpora police station area to apprehend timber smugglers.
The injured employees, Imran Yousaf Wani and Jahangir Ahmed Chechi, both from Budgam district, were evacuated to a hospital. Chechi, who had received minor injuries, was discharged after first aid, but Wani, who was shifted to Srinagar’s SHMS Hospital, succumbed later.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot on receiving information of the attack. The whole area was cordoned off and a joint search operation was launched by Army, CAPF and police personnel to nab the attackers.
