‘Study To Learn Rather Than To Pass’, HC Verma Shares Success Mantra With Students
HC Verma was given Padma Shri in 2021.
During his teaching days, Dr HC Verma noticed that students were not able to understand the complex language of Physics. To overcome this problem he decided to write a book.
Dr Harish Chandra Verma’s book ‘Concept Of Physics’ is a popular name among science students. The experimental physicist was honoured for his contribution to the field of science and engineering through the Padma Shri by the President of India in 2021. Professor HC Verma recently delivered a lecture at Garhwal Central University, Srinagar on the occasion of Science Day, February 28. He presented a lecture on the topic Light with Raman Effect for the students of the university.
In the conversation with Local18, HC Verma shared the success mantra for the students and said that one should study to learn rather than to pass. He also recalled the making of the bestseller Concepts of Physics.
HC Verma hails from the Darbhanga district of Bihar. He was not interested in science and mathematics in his childhood, but after taking admission to Patna Science University, he developed an affinity for science. He started devoting more time to understanding physics. While talking to Local18, Professor Verma said that he qualified for the GATE exam after completing his graduation from Patna. After this, he took admission to IIT Kanpur for an MSc. After post-graduation, he completed his doctoral studies at the same institute. Later, he became a professor there.
During his teaching days, Dr HC Verma noticed that students were not able to understand the complex language of Physics. To overcome this problem he decided to write a book. After 8 years of hard work, he published the book Concept of Physics in 1992. It became one of the best books for physics, often recommended by professors to students who are preparing for JEE and other competitive exams of the same qualifications. Along with this, Dr Verma also wrote the book Quantum Physics and Solution of Physics.
Giving the mantra of success to the students, HC Verma said that instead of studying to pass, if you study to learn, then you will achieve success quickly. “Students who prepare for the entrance of IIT, the most prestigious engineering institute of the country, do not need to be disappointed if they are not selected there.” He further said that the institute does not decide the ability of the students. It is important to develop the ability to learn, he added.
