MUNICH: The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has quoted foreign minister S Jaishankar‘s viral ‘European mindset’ remark during the Munich Security Conference.
During the Munich Security Conference, Chancellor Scholz highlighted Jaishankar’s comment and acknowledged its validity. Scholz suggested that a change in mindset is necessary, emphasizing the importance of considering the interests and concerns of countries outside of Europe and North America as a prerequisite for joint action.
Scholz also emphasized the need to work with regions such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America to find solutions to the challenges they face, including growing poverty and hunger, climate change, and the impact of COVID-19, which are partly a consequence of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
During the GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum last year, Jaishankar responded to a question on India’s stance in the Russia-Ukraine war by emphasizing the need for Europe to grow out of the mindset that its problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems. He also highlighted the need to consider the interests and concerns of countries outside of Europe and emphasized the linkage between China and India, which existed before the conflict in Ukraine.
