Even as authorities continue to neglect the internal road between Mayur Nagar and Aarey Market, two motorcycle riders were grievously injured while navigating the potholed road late on Wednesday. mid-day has been consistently shedding light on the poor condition of the road and its impact on Aarey residents.

Around 7.30 pm, the two men who work at Royal Palms were riding towards Aarey Market on a bike when they met with an accident.

Shiv Sena shakhapramukh Sandeep Gadhave of the UBT group told mid-day, “Sanjay Kumar and Sikandar were riding on the internal road between Mayur Nagar and Aarey Market. While trying to avoid potholes, they fell and got seriously injured. We have appealed to the authorities time and again to repair the potholes but they seem to be least bothered. Are they waiting for someone to die? Both men suffered head and body injuries.”

The two men, who are related, were rushed to the BMC-run trauma hospital in Jogeshwari. Their relative Anil Kumar said, “They are lucky to not have suffered worse injuries. Both got stitches. They were discharged on Thursday.” A video of the duo, wherein they are seen bleeding from their injuries, also went viral on social media.

“Aarey residents consistently fulfil their tax obligations to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, the civic body’s neglect in providing essential civic amenities is a cause for concern. Residents of Royal Palms and its adjoining areas should persist in their agitation until these amenities are delivered and residents’ grievances are addressed. Legal action against the BMC and public works department (PWD) is ongoing in the Bombay High Court but is facing delays due to Vanashakti’s intervention in the petition. Despite the high court’s awareness of recurring accidents on the road, resolution is impeded. Anticipating a potential resolution, I look forward to the High Court’s intervention in the petition scheduled for January 3, 2024,” said Binod Agarwal, an Indian Navy veteran, who
resides in Royal Palms.
