Mumbai Police seized drugs worth Rs 1.18 crore and arrested two persons on Thursday, reported news agency ANI.

The Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested two suspects and seized 503 grams of MD drugs worth Rs 1.18 crore from a drug factory in the Lalji Pada slum area of the city, reported ANI.

The factory was producing drugs using confiscated chemicals and other materials, the police said, reported ANI.

After Mumbai Police seized drugs, a 24-year-old chemical scientist, identified as Noor Alam Mahboob Alam Chaudhary, was also arrested in connection with the matter, an officer said, adding that he is believed to be mastermind behind the chemical production, reported ANI.

Another suspect, identified as 30-year-old Abrar Ibrahim Shaikh, was also arrested for drug possession, the police said, reported ANI.

In another case, in a significant operation led by the Directorate of Revenue (DRI), a 21-year-old Thai national was apprehended at Mumbai Airport on Friday on charges of cocaine trafficking, reported ANI.

The DRI, acting on reliable information, detained the woman upon her arrival from Addis Ababa, reported ANI.

According to the Directorate of Revenue, during an extensive search, the individual`s examination yielded no suspicious findings. However, a closer inspection of her trolley bag uncovered multiple packets containing a white powder-like substance. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance as cocaine, boasting an estimated international market value of a staggering Rs 40 crore, reported ANI.

The arrested woman has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reported ANI.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have seized gutka, a banned product, worth Rs 78 lakh which was being transported in the city and arrested three persons in this connection, an official said, reported PTI.

The crime branch officials had specific information about the transportation of gutka in Andheri area under D N Nagar police station jurisdiction on Monday, reported PTI.

Accordingly, a trap was laid and the three persons were nabbed after the seizure of gutka, the official said, reported PTI.

The three accused were subsequently produced before a local court which sent them to police custody till Friday, he said, reported PTI.
