Mumbai Police nab 2 for phone theft; seize 47 phones worth Rs 6 lakh
The Malvani police, in Mumbai, apprehended two persons who allegedly stole and sold 47 mobile phones. The accused Shabir Shaikh (35) soon after his arrest confessed that he stole phones and sold them to one Imtaz Menon. Subsequently, the police arrested Imtaz and seized 47 phones worth Rs 6 lakhs from his residence.
The duo was arrested after a person on October 2 filed a complaint against unidentified persons for stealing his mobile phone. The complainant Kadar Shaikh, approached Malwani police on Monday after an unknown person stole his phone from his shirt`s pocket.
“Based on the complaint, we registered an FIR and began the investigation. We scrutinised the CCTV footage and were able to identify the accused,” said Senior PI of Malvani police station, Chimaji Adhav.
During the investigation, the cops found out that the accused persons were fugitives and were barred from entering the locality. Shabir had 17 cases registered against him across the western suburbs.
While Shaikh has been booked under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code, the charges against Imtaz are undisclosed.
