Monorail in Chembur gets 2 U-girders
An important achievement occurred as MMRDA successfully placed two large U-girders, each spanning 27 meters and weighing 157 MT, above the operational Monorail at Chembur Nakka.
Tweeting about the same MMRDA said, “Another Milestone Conquered! Team Metro Line-2B has triumphed over challenges, achieving yet another incredible milestone. With unwavering determination, we successfully launched two massive U-girders (each spanning 27 metres and weighing 157 MT) over the operational Monorail Crossing P762-P763 at Chembur Nakka, VN Purav Marg, Chembur.” In a meticulously coordinated effort with the Monorail team, MMRDA team orchestrated a special engineering operation from midnight to 5 am, showcasing seamless coordination.
“Utilising our powerful cranes and hydraulic axle trailers, boasting capacities of 750 MT and 500 MT respectively, we lifted these girders 18 meters above the ground, defying spatial constraints. The Metroline team is tirelessly committed to realizing the METRO DREAM, working relentlessly through the night to transform urban landscapes.” MMRDA tweeted.
The work on Metro Line 2B from DN Nagar to Mandale is a 23.643 kilometre-long elevated corridor with 20 stations is 51.63 per cent. Once operational, it shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Eastern Express Highway, Western Railway, Central Railway, Mono Rail, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova) and Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar), Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavali) and Metro Line 3 (Colaba to SEEPZ) under implementation.

The line will also provide connectivity between the Eastern and Western Suburban Mumbai and provide rail-based access to the commercial, government bodies and geographical landmarks in Mumbai. A dedicated Depot is coming up at Mandale in up to an extent of 22 hectares land area. The line will also reduce the current travel time by anything between 50 per cent and 75 per cent depending on road conditions.
