KOLKATA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged on Friday that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act workers have not received their “dues” for the last two years.
In a long series of posts in Hindi on X, Rahul Gandhi said Congress’s historic scheme MGNREGA, which guarantees employment to rural workers from their homes, completed 18 years today.
“Today, when I met some MNREGA workers from West Bengal, they gave worrying information. In Bengal, where 76 lakh families are dependent on MNREGA, the MNREGA budget has been reduced to zero, and for the last two years, MNREGA workers have not received money for their hard work,” he alleged.
“In the last few years, the job cards of 7 crore workers across the country were deleted, and the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar has left 35 percent of workers out of MNREGA benefits,” Rahul Gandhi alleged.
“(Prime Minister) Narendra Modi could not completely stop MNREGA due to pressure from the opposition, so now he is conspiring to ruin it,” he alleged.
“This injustice to the workers is weakening the economic structure of the country; that is why labour justice is a fundamental part of our Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” Rahul Gandhi claimed.
The country is built not only by big corporate houses but also by the hardworking workers in every village, he said.
Our fight will continue until we get our right to justice, Rahul Gandhi said.
