According to an official, certain residents of the Pithoragarh and Champawat districts of Uttarakhand hold dual citizenship with both India and Nepal. These residents are being identified. On the border between India and Nepal, we discovered such occurrences at Pithoragarh’s Jhulaghat and a few locations in the Champawat region.

According to D N Bhombe, the Sashastra Seema Bal’s (SSB) deputy inspector general for the Almora region, the concerned district administrations have been informed.

The SSB officer told reporters that the troops stationed at each of the 54 border outposts of the force in Uttarakhand are working to locate individuals who are dual citizens of Nepal and India and are residing on Indian soil. He said that the SSB is enlisting the assistance of the relevant district administrations in this regard. There are two types of Nepali people living in India, according to Pithoragarh Deputy District Magistrate Anil Kumar Shukla.

“The first category is of those women who got married and came to India, but neither gave up their Nepali citizenship nor acquired Indian citizenship. Shukla said the second category is of those people whose entire family came from Nepal and settled in India without taking Indian citizenship. We have found many cases in which they fraudulently obtained Aadhaar cards and voter ID cards in India. We immediately cancelled their fake documents,” he said.

According to the deputy inspector general of the SSB, in addition to the smuggling of drugs and the body parts of wild animals, the SSB has developed specific squads to combat human trafficking. He claimed that in order to learn about any outsider’s entrance in the border regions, the SSB staff maintain close touch with the locals living there.
