In another recent case from Mumbai, the Borivali police arrested two persons accused of duping a 72-year-old woman by deceptively obtaining her gold ornaments.

The complainant was en route to participate in a puja at a Jain temple when she was approached by two strangers. They struck up a conversation with her, indicating their intention to visit the temple and make a donation. Persuading the complainant to remove her 40-gram gold bangles to facilitate their handling of funds, the pair then absconded with the jewellery. Recognising the theft, the complainant promptly lodged a report, as detailed by an officer from the Borivali police station.

The authorities effectively traced, apprehended, and arrested the suspects on October 10 and 13, respectively. They also succeeded in recovering the stolen gold, valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh.

The officer elaborated, stating that they examined the CCTV footage from the location where the crime occurred and the neighbouring areas. This investigation unveiled that, subsequent to the theft, both individuals accused in the case travelled from the railway tracks to the Borivali East region. From there, they opted for a rickshaw to head in the direction of Goregaon. Additional inquiries into their route before the incident revealed that they had utilized a train to journey from Goregaon Railway Station to reach Borivali.

By obtaining CCTV footage of this specific train journey, they were able to successfully identify the individuals implicated in the case. Building on the information gleaned from the CCTV footage and insights provided by an informant, the authorities took Chaudhary, the primary accused, into custody at his residence near the Marol Pipeline in Andheri. Additionally, they apprehended Khan, the secondary accused, in Pathan Wadi, located in Malad East.
