Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets during the 46th match of the IPL on Wednesday. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma played an exceptional partnership to take PBKS to a massive score of 214, but MI’s partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan triumphed, taking the match home.

The match was totally for the batters, with bowlers on both sides facing the wrath. PBKS couldn’t start well with wickets falling at regular intervals, but Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma played responsible innings to set the challenging target.

Despite losing the skipper early, Mumbai Indians didn’t flinch with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan giving nightmares to the pacers of Punjab Kings.

PBKS innings:

Prabhsimran Singh became an early target of Arshad Khan and was dismissed at a score of 9, after which Shikhar Dhawan took the command with Matt Short. The innings were stabilizing with regular boundaries, but Piyush Chawla struck and the PBKS skipper had to depart.

After the first 10 overs, PBKS was at 78/2 and Liam Livingstone was building his innings with Matt Short. Akash Madhwal came to ball the 11th over, during which both players stretched some arms and had a good 16 run over.

But, again Piyush Chawla displayed his magic and Short was seen walking back to the pavilion. Then came Jitesh Sharma with a clear objective, to take the score as high as possible. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma started communicating well and the scoreboard kept moving.

Soon, Liam Livingstone completed his remarkable half-century, and Jitesh Sharma completed close at 49. Jofra Archer and Arshad Khan were very expensive and especially during the final five overs, the bowling attack of Mumbai Indians was completely derailed.

At the end of the first innings, PBKS score was 214/3 with Liam Livingstone undefeated at 82 runs and Jitesh Sharma at 49 runs.

Mumbai Indians innings:

Chasing a massive score of 215, skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for no show and it was on young Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green to take the challenge forward. Both players tried to tread cautiously with occasional boundaries, but during the sixth over, Nathan Ellis took out dangerous Green.

Then came India’s Mr. 360 degrees Suryakumar Yadav, who didn’t have the perfect start to the tournament, but was doing good from the previous few matches. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan then played a beautiful partnership targeting PBKS pacers.

With classic fours and magnificent sixes, Yadav and Kishan kept the scoreboard rolling and the faces of PBKS players started becoming tense. Suryakumar Yadav completed his half-century in just 23 balls, and Ishan Kishan followed soon with another IPL 50.

Mumbai’s win was looking close when Nathan Ellis’s beautiful delivery dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and soon after Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ishan Kishan. Now, the responsibility fell on Tilak Verma and explosive Tim David.

Tilak Verma started strong with back-to-back boundaries, capitalizing well on the momentum set by the previous partnership. Finally, Tilak Verma smashed the winning six and the team won the match by six wickets.
