Batting first, the KKR openers — Jason Roy (10) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (18)– couldn’t do much and were dismissed by Trent Boult in the second and fifth over.

Following this, KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer took the responsibility on his shoulders to score in the match and tried setting up a partnership with skipper Nitish Rana (22), who was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 11th over.

After this, KKR sent power hitter Andre Russell (10), whom KM Asif sent back in the 14th over. In the 18th over, set batter Venkatesh Iyer (57) too was sent back by Chahal. With this, wickets started falling like pack of cards and KKR batters Rinku Singh (16), Shardul Thakur (1) and Sunil Narine (6) couldn’t keep up. By the end of 20 overs, KKR managed to give a target of 150 runs for Royals to chase.

For RR, Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets, Trent Boult picked one, while KM Asif and Sandeep Sharma clinched one wicket each.

After the innings, Yuzvendra Chahal has surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. In Thursday’s match, Chahal claimed figures of 4 for 25 in his four overs, taking his tally up to 187 wickets. He has become highest wicket-taker in the IPL surpassing Dwayne Bravo.

RR Innings:

Chasing a target of 150 runs at the Eden Gardens is not that easy, considering the pitch conditions. But, when RR openers — Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler — entered the field, they appeared very firm on winning the match.

However, Buttler could not open his account and was run out by Andre Russell in the second over only.

Following this, RR skipper Sanju Samson entered the field and everything changed all of a sudden. He built a thunderous partnership with Jaiswal and it was raining boundaries all across the ground.

One one side Jaiswal was hitting fours and on the other side Samson was flying the ball with sixes.

In merely 47 balls, Jaiswal hit 98 runs at a strike rate of 208.51, with 12 fours and 5 sixes, while on the other side Samson scored 48 runs in 29 balls, with 2 fours and 5 sixes.

The duo chased the target of 150 runs in just 13.1 overs, with 9 wickets remaining.

With this, RR climbed to the 3rd spot with 6 wins and 6 loses in the IPL points table, while KKR slipped to 7th spot with 5 wins and 7 loses.
