Defending champions Gujarat Titans on 29 April defeated the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets in the 16th season of Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens.

After winning the toss, GT skipper Hardik Pandya chose to bowl. In reply, KKR batters scored 179 runs in 20 overs, which GT chased with 13 balls remaining.

KKR innings: 

Opening for KKR, Narayan Jagadeesan was sent back to pavilion for 19 by Mohammed Shami in the third over. Following this, Shardul Thakur too walked out of pitch in the 5th over, as Shami took his wicket.

Similarly, other wickets of Venkatesh Iyer (11), skippier Nitish Rana (4) and power hitter Rinku Singh (19) were taken by GT bowlers. However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz kept his cool and scored 81 runs in 39 deliveries before being sent to pavilion by Noor Ahmad in the 16th over. Andre Russell did score 34 runs but was too sent back by Shami in the 20th over.

For GT, Mohammed Shami took three wickets, while Josh Little and Noor Ahmad picked two wickets each.

GT innings:

Chasing a target of 180 runs, KKR couldn’t perform today and was sent back in the 5th over by Russell. Gill (49) and skipper Hardik Pandya (26) built a good partnership, but then in the 11th over, Pandya was sent back by Harshit Rana. Following this, Gill was too sent back by Narine in the 13 over.

To chase the target, Vijay Shankar (51) and David Miller (32) built a strong partnership and led the GT to a 7 wickets win with 13 balls remaining.

For KKR, Harshit Rana, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine picked one wicket each.

With this, GT has now reached the top spot with 6 wins in 8 matches, while KKR is at the 7th spot with 3 victory and 6 loss.
