External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka starting today, Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

“EAM will attend the 23rd Council of Ministers’ (COM) meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) on October 11. At this meeting, India will assume the Vice-Chair role of IORA for 2023-25, leading to Chairship in 2025-27,” read the statement.

The statement added that Jaishankar is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings in Colombo.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar attended an event where Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan was conferred an honorary doctorate by Jawaharlal Nehru University, making her the first woman to be bestowed with the honour.

President Hassan arrived in India on a four-day visit on Sunday.
