Claim your abandoned cars before Feb 15 or it will be auctioned: Mumbai Police
Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued a public notice for the vehicle owners who have not yet visited the traffic police chowkies to release their vehicles. The police have asked the vehicle owners to claim their abandoned cars before February 15 or else it will be auctioned, the public notice issued by the Mumbai Police said.
The Mumbai Traffic Police in its notification said, “This is to inform the citizens that 3,901 abandoned vehicles are lying unclaimed in different traffic chowkies of Traffic Control Branch of Mumbai Police. A detailed list of these vehicles is displayed on the website of the Mumbai Traffic Police.”
The Mumbai Traffic Police also shared the detailed path on its official website to the find an abandoned.
The police further said, “Owners of the vehicles with registration numbers mentioned in the list may please contact Police Inspector, Multimedia Cell Traffic, whose office is located at the Traffic Police Head Quarters, 4th Floor, Sir Pochkhanwala Road, Worli, Mumbai 400030 before 15th of February, 2024.”
The Mumbai Traffic Police said, the claimants should bring along with them all original documents pertaining to the vehicle, R.C. Book as well as owners identity documents such as Aadhar Card, Driving Licence etc.
“All Vehicles not claimed before February 15 will be disposed off by legal auction process,” the traffic police notice said.
“The vehicles are occupying spaces at the traffic chowkies and lying abandoned for months or even years. The space needs to be emptied to make it free for other vehicles hence the process has been initiated,” sources said.

In August last year, the BMC had reportedly auctioned 4,533 abandoned automobiles to scrap dealers, collecting Rs 4.23 crore, sources said.
The vehicles were sold for scrap in an auction. For the process the pictures of abandoned automobiles were uploaded on an eAuction portal.
“Once a notice is issued, the vehicles are towed to scrapyards and depots. The procedure takes several weeks before an actual action takes place. The vehicles are auctioned to make room for other vehicles,” an official said.
