On Monday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the test results for classes 10 and 12, which showed a modest improvement in total pass rate over the previous year. In both grades, girls performed better than boys. In Class 12, girls passed with a pass percentage of 91.52 per cent compared to boys’ 85.12 per cent, and in Class 10, girls passed with a pass rate of 94.75 per cent compared to boys’ 92.71 per cent.

The trend of girls performing better extends beyond the country’s overall pass rates. In regions such as Noida and Ghaziabad, females consistently outperformed boys in CBSE board examinations, as seen by the huge gap in pass percentages among class 12 students over the years.

According to the Times of India, in Gautam Budh Nagar, the pass rate for girls in Class 12 was 92.5 per cent, which is over nine per cent higher than that for boys at 83.3 per cent. The district’s total pass percentage for kids was 87.5 per cent, up from 86.7 per cent in 2023.

The pass percentage disparity between girls and boys in the 2022-2023 board exam held in Gautam Budh Nagar, was 8.3 per cent. Class 10 students in the district had a decreased gap in pass per cent. Of 11,707 girls who took board examinations, 94 per cent passed, compared to 15,564 or 89.9 per cent of boys, which is a 4 per cent difference.

The TOI reported Renu Singh, head of Amity International School in Noida and CBSE’s city coordinator, as stating, “Girls are becoming more conscious about their careers.” She also mentioned that girls are doing well in board examinations and preparing for CUET and they also attend their classes on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the board revised its assessment pattern for the 2023-24 academic year, adding more competency-based questions and lowering the weightage allocated to short- and long-answer questions.
