At least seven meter boxes in a Thane residential apartment were charred after a fire broke out in the meter box room. According to the Thane Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell, the blaze was reported in Shivkrupa Society in the city`s Naupada area.

According to the officials, the fire broke out in the meter box which is located on the ground floor of this ground+seven structure.

The fire did not just damage the meter boxes, it completely charred the electric wiring in the room as well.

The firemen were able to extinguish the fire with the help of residents and the situation is now under control. However, no one knows what caused the fire.

The officials from the disaster management cell said that firemen had arrived to the spot with one jeep and one fire engine and a pick-up van was also present. The personnel from MahaVitaran, a government-run electricity provider, and disaster management cell staff were present at the site too.

The incident comes a day after a similar incident was reported from the Ghodbunder Road area of the city.

On Thursday, a blaze erupted in the meter box of a residential apartment in Ghodbunder Road; the massive fire gutted at least 30 meter boxes, officials had said.

Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane civic body`s disaster management cell, said that the blaze erupted in the residential building located in the Waghbil area around 1 pm. He added that no one was injured in the incident.

He told PTI, “After being alerted about the incident, the local fire brigade personnel and the disaster management cell team rushed to the spot. One fire engine was engaged in the firefighting operation and the flames were doused in an hour.”

He further said that around 45 persons were stranded in the building due to the fire and that they were rescued.

Meanwhile, on Friday, a major fire broke out in a high-rise at Mumbai`s Grant Road. Several persons were stranded on 15th, 21st and 22nd floors of the Dhavalgiri building. The firemen rescued the strandees and took them to the staircase as they tried to bring fire under control.
