The ACC said, “The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final.”
Since months, both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were at loggerheads over the venue. With BCCI secretary Jay Shah stating Indian players won’t visit Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, the statement has miffed PCB officials, who even reached to ICC regarding this issue.
Due to the Asia Cup logjam, the ICC World Cup 2023’s – to be played in India – schedule was affected too. Now, as the date and venue for Asia Cup 2023 is sorted, the ICC may announce the ODI World Cup schedule soon.
Meanwhile, BCCI is yet to announce the names of players for the Asia Cup 2023, considering the injuries of players and uncertainties over recovery of some of them.
