Poker Sports League’s new season to be broadcast on OTT platform JioCinema
New Delhi: Mind Sports League Pvt. Ltd’s Poker Sports League (PSL) has named JioCinema as the official streaming partner for its fifth season, signifying its movement into the burgeoning over-the-top (OTT) market. The tournament, which features a prize pool of ₹1.5 crore, is scheduled to be streamed from July to August.
Pranav Bagai, CEO and co-founder PSL, said, “Our aim is to offer engaging experiences, and this collaboration aligns perfectly with the viewing preferences of our tech-savvy audience.” Bagai also assured that the league remains committed to maintaining a legal and safe environment, stating that “our team format eliminates all forms of betting and wagering.”
According to consultancy Deloitte, India’s OTT market is on a growth trajectory, with revenues expected to more than double to approximately $5.3 billion by 2027 from $2.35 billion in 2022.
In a recent move, PSL also partnered with Pocket52, an online poker gaming app, as its title sponsor. Pocket52 will be responsible for providing the gaming experience for the league’s competitors across its six tournaments
The Deloitte report added that the the Indian sports market is anticipated to grow significantly in the coming years. Deloitte reports that the market could potentially quadruple to nearly $100 billion by 2027 from $27 billion in 2020, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 20%. In 2022, sports viewership impressions contributed to 3.17% of total viewership, up 20% from 2.97% in 2021. Live sports telecasts, including repeats, experienced about 12% growth.
