A fire broke out at Dr Ambedkar Hospital at Tagore Nagar in the Vikhroli East area of Mumbai on Sunday. However, no casualties or injuries were reported in the fire.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the patients were shifted to safety when the fire broke out. The fire started around 1:47 am and was doused by 2:25 am.

“The fire was confined to the main cable of the air suction motor in the ICU on the ground floor plus the upper three-floored hospital building. As a precautionary measure six patients of the ICU Ward were shifted to a nearby casualty ward in the presence of doctors,” said the Disaster Management Unit of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

Sx patients, identified as Shivaji Dhele (65), Vimal Tiwari (60), Yashodabai Rathod (58), Kantaprasad Nirmal (75), Arun Haribhagat (64), and Sushmita Ghokshe (23), were evacuated from the ICU.

Two patients were shifted to the Rajawadi Hospital, and four patients were at Ambedkar Hospital.

“Two patients were shifted to Rajawadi Hospital. The two patients were critical when they were admitted, hence they were shifted to Rajawadi hospital for ICU management. Other four patients were stable and hence were at Ambedkar Hospital,” said Dr Jagdish Gosavi of Ambedkar Hospital.

However, the officials were still in the process of determining the cause of the fire at the time of filing this report.

Earlier, a fire broke out at a 22-storeyed building in the Malad area of Mumbai on Saturday afternoon.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. 

According to officials, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building is located in the Kurar village area of Malad.

As soon as information about the fire was received, a team of five fire tenders was sent to the spot, and an operation to bring the fire under control was started.

Fire tenders were making efforts to bring the situation under control.

Earlier on January 15, a fire broke out at a 23-story residential structure in Kandivali, Mumbai, originating from the 13th-floor duct area. The incident occurred at Samarthwadi, and the Mumbai Fire Department was notified at about 4:00 am.

Officials from the Mumbai Fire Department said that fire tenders were quickly dispatched to the location to combat the blaze in the SRA building. Local people observed the fire and instantly raised an alert, prompting the fire department to respond quickly.
