The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) released a notice on December 8 informing that practical exams will not be conducted for visually-impaired candidates who are going to appear in the Karnataka 2nd Pre-University Certificate (PUC) Exams 2024. Nevertheless, for these candidates, viva voce will be held. The official notice is currently available on the main site of KSEAB at kseab.karnataka.gov.in.

The practical examinations will carry 20 marks under the marking scheme. The 20 marks for internal assessments that these students will receive have been set by the government. Since it is ‘difficult to recruit writers for all short examinations and mid-year examinations for students with visual impairment and also to engage in projects to a full extent’, the decision was made, reported Careers360.

According to the board, the decision was taken following a meeting with senior representatives from the Department of School Education’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities (Pre-Graduate). Since the current academic year 2023–24, students have been subject to an internal evaluation system.

Concerned schools have also received a circular about the directive. The exams are scheduled to take place from March 2 to March 22, next year, according to the Karnataka 2nd PUC date sheet 2024. For some exams, the duration is 3 hours and 15 minutes while for others it is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
