Who is Pratap Simha?
Pratap Simha, 42, is a Member of Parliament from Mysuru in Karnataka. In the 2019 elections, he won from the Mysuru constituency with vote share to 52.27 per cent, while in 2014 he bagged 43.46 per cent of votes.
Simha is a former journalist and is well-known for a series of columns. In 2007, he has wrote a biography of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and even had earlier said he idolises PM Modi.
One of the intruders to the Lok Sabha on 13 December, 2023, is a Mysuru-based engineer Manoranjan D.
According to PTI report, Manoranjan D introduced co-accused Sagar Sharma as a friend to the MP’s office and got passes issued to them on the pretext of watching the new Parliament.
Three passes were issued at the behest of Simha for Wednesday. However, one person, a woman, had to return as she arrived with her child whose name was not mentioned in her pass, the PTI report added.
Manoranjan D has been pursuing Simha and his office for the pass for over three months.
Facing criticism, Simha’s office said MPs generally entertain such requests from members of their constituency.
How passes are issued to Parliament visitors?
Those willing to visit the Parliament first has to request in the name of the Member of Parliament from their constituency.
The lawmakers in whose names the passes are issued, make a security check for the visitors’ access and check the identity cards submitted by such visitors.
The visitors are then made to pass through stringent security checks by the guards and electronic machines deployed at the entrance of the Parliament.
