A 25-year-old man was allegedly killed by two brothers for asking one of the duo for Rs 500 that he owed to him. The incident took place on Thursday night near Bandra railway station, the police said.

According to the police, the two were held hours after the crime took place. The deceased identified as Nazim Khan and the accused Shadab Khan (21) and his brother Shanu Khan (22) all residents of Garib Nagar in Bandra East, Mumbai were known to each other for the past some months.

Nazim`s wife told the police that around 20-25 days, Nazim had got a call and he was talking on his mobile phone, when Shadab, a tailor by profession allegedly pushed him. This led to Nazim`s phone being fell to the ground.

The phone had got damaged in the act and needed to be repaired. Nazim told Shadab that the cost for the repair was Rs 1,000 as told to him by a mobile repair shop. Shadab told Nazim that he would compensate the entire amount for repairing the phone. Days later, Shadab gave him Rs 500 and told Nazim that he would pay him another Rs 500 in some days.

Meanwhile, Nazim, on several occasions asked Shadab for the money but he allegedly kept delaying to pay.

On February 9, Nazim, a key chain seller met Shadab at a public bridge near Bandra railway station and asked for the money. Shadab told him that he did not have money at that moment, which led to an argument between the two. The two then got into a scuffle and Shadab`s brother Shanu, also a tailor by profession, too reached the spot. The duo began to beat him, the police said.

During the fight, Shanu allegedly handed over a knife to Shadab who allegedly stabbed Nazim multiple times leaving him severely injured with stab wounds. Later, Nazim`s relatives reached the spot for his rescue. Nazim was rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra west, where the doctors declared him dead, the police said. 

“The Nirmal Nagar Police registered an FIR on the complaint of Nazim`s wife and within an hour of the crime nabbed the culprits. They have been booked on charges of murder and are in police custody,” an official said.
