NEW DELHI: There are 17 Indians among the 25-member crew of cargo shipMSC Aries’, which was seized by Iran‘s Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to media reports citing sources.

“We are aware that a cargo ship ‘MSC Aries’ has been taken control of by Iran. We have learnt that there are 17 Indian nationals onboard. We are in touch with the Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels, both in Tehran and in Delhi, to ensure the security, welfare and early release of Indian nationals,” the media reports said, citing sources.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized the Israeli-linked cargo ship, days after Tehran said it could close the crucial shipping route and warned it would retaliate for an Israeli strike on its Syria consulate.
