London takes the lead as the most popular destination for summer 2024, with Paris securing the second-place spot, notable as the host city for the upcoming Summer Olympics

Google has recently revealed the top 20 destinations that travelers are eyeing for their upcoming warm weather escapes, offering insights based on past flight bookings and search trends. From both domestic and international locations, these insights shared with “Good Morning America” can assist individuals in planning their summer vacations or crafting the perfect itinerary. Similar to the surprises and snubs seen during awards season, there are some places that have lost popularity since last year, along with new additions that have made it onto this year’s list.

Google Flights has unveiled its top summer 2024 destinations, based on searches by users in the U.S. for travel between June 1 and August 31, 2024. Cancun, once the top choice, now ranks sixth, while Tokyo is gaining popularity. Madrid and San Juan have emerged as new additions to the list of summer destinations.

Google collects data from mid-January to mid-March from users in the U.S. to identify the most prominent travel-related queries in anticipation of summer.

In January, searches for “travel itinerary” and “solo travel” peaked, reaching an all-time high.

Palm Springs and the Florida Keys emerged as two of the most trending “weekend getaway” destinations.

For “romantic getaway” searches, Napa Valley in California and Key West, known for its historic landmarks and being the southernmost point in the Continental U.S., were the top trending destinations.

Lastly, La Romana and Saint John were the top trending destinations searched for all-inclusive resorts.
