Rameshwaram cafe blast case: NIA has detained BJP worker, claims Karnataka minister | India News
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru last March, Karnataka‘s health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao claimed on Friday.
However, NIA in its press release, has not mentioned any such information.
“As part of the investigation into the Rameshwaram Cafe Blast dated March 1 at ITPL Road in Bengaluru, the NIA has identified the accused person who carried out the IED blast as one Mussavir Hussain Shazib and co-conspirator as Abdul Matheen Taahaa, both residents of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district,” NIA said in its statement.
“The case being terror incident, any information on the identity of the witnesses may apart from hampering investigation may also put to risk the individuals being summoned,” it added.
The probe agency further said that unverified news items hamper effective investigations in the case.
According to the Karnataka health minister’s post on X, the BJP worker was apprehended from Thirthahalli in Shimoga district, Karnataka.
“BJP leader Sai Prasad of Tirthahalli has been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Rameswaram Cafe blast case,” he said in his post.
“What will the saffron buds of the state say now that our government is the reason for the explosion? Doesn’t it mean that BJP is involved in Rameswaram cafe blast because BJP leader has been taken into custody by NIA? Do you need any more proof than this that the saffron terrorism that the BJP is running in the state in the name of religious protection is creating serious problems? What does the central BJP, which is imposing RSS ideologies on the country, say to this?,” he added.

The NIA, which took charge of the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case on March 13, had previously arrested Muzammil Shareef, believed to be the main mastermind of the blast. Shareef’s arrest followed raids in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
The prime suspect, Mussavir Shazeeb Hussain, and co-conspirator Abdul Matheen Taha are yet to be arrested.
The blast at the eatery on ITPL road in Bengaluru’s Brookefield area on March 1 involved an IED, causing injuries to customers and staff and damaging the establishment.
