These are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Khadoor Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Patiala. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the INC-led UPA alliance won eight seats, while the NDA secured four. The Aam Aadmi Party, in its debut, won one seat.
The major players are Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which clinched a sweeping victory in the state elections with 92 seats out of 117, alongside the established Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
With changing political dynamics, the AAP, now a significant player in the state assembly, holds a different position from its initial Lok Sabha foray. It won 92 seats out of 117 in state assembly elections and Bhagwant Mann became the chief minister.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced the first list of eight candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Punjab on March 14.
Among them, five Cabinet Ministers will be contesting. Dr. Balbir Singh, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Kuldeep Dhaliwal, Gurmeet Singh Khundian, and Laljit Singh Bhullar are the Cabinet Ministers chosen to run from various constituencies. Sushil Rinku, the current MP, will seek re-election in Jalandhar. Karamjeet Anmol and former Congress MLA Gurpreet Singh, who recently joined AAP, are the other candidates from Faridkot and Fatehgarh Sahib respectively.
The INC’s popularity has declined, and the BJP will contest alone after splitting from the SAD in 2023. Despite being in the INDIA alliance, both AAP and INC will compete as opposition forces in Punjab.
