NEET MDS 2024: The National Eligibility and Entrance Examination for Master in Dental Surgery, or NEET MDS, has been likely postponed. The NEET MDS exams were scheduled to be held on 18 March. However, in an RTI reply posted All India Student’s Union (AISU) stated that NEET MDS 2024 exam schedule is ‘under process’.

Taking to X, AISU wrote, “On 08.02.2024, we filed an RTI to seek information about the NEET MDS exam postponement. Today, we received a response stating that our representations are ‘Under Process’ in the Ministry” The official website of National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has still not made any official announcement on postponing the exams. As per its official notification, the exam date for NEET MDS still shows 18 March and the cut-off date for the internship is March 31.

The NEET-MDS 2024 is the eligibility cum ranking examination for admission to various MDS courses for 2024-2025 admissions. It is conducted by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

Supreme Court on NEET-MDS postponement

Petition seeking to postpone the NEET-MDS 2024 were filed in the top court. On 21 February, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to take a call and decide expeditiously on the representation of the NEET MDS 2024. The Centre also apprised the court that they were looking into the matter. Additionally, the court had also expressed its difficulty in extending cut-offs. It also viewed that the issue of fixing the cut-off date pertains to the policy domain and hence it would be better to leave the government to take a call. The top court asked the Centre to decide on the representation in one week time. 

Meanwhile, NBEMS has announced that it will conducting The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate exams (NEET PG) exams 2024 on 7 July from the earlier scheduled date of 3 March. In an official notice by the NBEMS, “In supersession of NBEMS notice dated 09.11.2023 and pursuant to the receipt of NMC letter dated January 3, 2024, the conduct of NEET-PG 2024 examination, which was earlier notified to be tentatively held on March 3, 2024, stands rescheduled.”
