Govt has allocated Rs 800 crore for SC complex expansion: PM Modi at 75th year of SC celebrations | India News
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the allocation of Rs 800 crores for the expansion of the Supreme Court complex during the inauguration of the apex court’s diamond jubilee celebrations in Delhi on Sunday.
“I am also aware of the problems you all are facing in the current Supreme Court building. Last week, the government approved an amount of Rs 800 crore for the expansion of the Supreme Court building complex,” he said in his address.
Discussing the replacement of colonial criminal laws with new legislation, PM Modi said, “By abolishing the colonial criminal laws, the government started the system of ‘Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita,’ ‘Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita,’ and ‘Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.'”
“These changes have propelled our legal policing and investigative systems into a new phase. I request the Supreme Court to also come forward for a similar capacity-building exercise,” he added.
Emphasizing the need for a reliable judicial system, PM Modi said, “The Jan Vishwas Bill is a step towards this. This will reduce the unnecessary burden on the judicial system.”
Highlighting the role of justice in India’s evolving global position, PM Modi said, “Laws made today will brighten the future of India.”
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud also addressed the gathering, discussing the ‘democratised access to the Supreme Court’ due to the increase in the number of e-filing of cases.
“It offers a host of improved features that have made 24×7 filing of cases simpler, faster, and more convenient,” he said, adding, “Nearly 1,28,000 e-filings have been done so far, with a consistent rise in the share of e-filings compared to physical filings.
