A two-day conference on ‘International Law and Management Research’ was recently held at Mumbai University (MU), Kalina Campus. The conference touched on the theme of ‘Business Environment, Governance, and Sustainability, Ethical Practices & Compliances in the Dynamic Global Market’.

“Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) refers to a set of non-financial performance indicators that companies use to evaluate their impact on the environment, society, and corporate governance structure. In other words, it is a yardstick to assess a corporate / organisation`s business practices and performances on the above three pillars (ESG) based on sustainability and ethical practices,” said Dr Rajeshri Varhadi, Director University of Mumbai Law Academy.   

“Section 134 (m) of the Companies Act, 2013 mandates the companies with over 500 employees to disclose information in their annual reports on Business Environment, Governance and Sustainability, Ethical practices and Compliances, which makes the companies stand at par from others in the dynamic global market, and the theme of the conference was to mold the young legal brains, to get accustomed to the changing dynamism of corporate legal responsibilities,” pointed out Dr Rajeshri Varhadi, UMLA.

The conference was patroned by Dr Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai, Dr Ajay Bhamare, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dr Smita Shukla (Director ADMIFMS – Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies, who also was co-organiser of the event.
