Mumbai: Woman booked for acid attack on dog
The Malwani police have registered an FIR against the woman who seriously injured a dog living in her society by throwing acid at it. The caretaker of the dog, Balasaheb Tukaram Bhagat, 53, has alleged that the woman looks after cats in the society and believed the dog was barking at the cats and harassing them. The incident took place at 12.25 pm on Wednesday at the Malwani Swapnapurti society in Gaikwad Nagar, Malad West and was recorded on CCTV cameras in the society where the accused woman, Sabista Suhail Ansari, 35, also resides.
According to the police, the dog named ‘Brownie’ has been living in the society premises for many years and Bhagat has been taking care of him. “On Wednesday afternoon, when Brownie was sleeping inside the society premises, Ansari threw acid on him. He could be seen running frantically after the attack,” an officer said. Later in the afternoon, Bhagat found Brownie in an injured condition with burned skin. He rushed him to hospital and ensured he got timely treatment. Bhagat then checked the CCTV cameras of the society and realised that Ansari has thrown a substance on the dog, causing burn injuries. He immediately informed the police and registered an FIR against Ansari.
While Brownie was treated at a hospital and is now out of danger, Bhagat has told the police that the acid attack has left him handicapped. Senior Inspector Chimaji Adhav of Malwani police station said, “We have registered an FIR against Ansari for allegedly throwing acid on the dog and seriously injuring it. We have sent her a notice to present herself at the police station for further investigation.” A police officer said, “We have registered an FIR against Ansari under IPC Sections 429 and 11(1), and Section 119 of Maharashtra Police Act.”
