Robbery, murder in Mumbai`s Tardeo; 1 held, hunt on for 2
The Tardeo police have detained one of the three suspects involved in the robbery and murder at Yusuf Manzil society. A 69-year-old woman had died after three masked men barged into their home around 7 am on Sunday, while her husband survived, thanks to her jogger friends.
The police have refused to divulge the details of the apprehended suspect, and they have launched the manhunt is underway for the other two suspects. The detained accused was nabbed from Rajasthan, according to sources.
Two of the three accused, carrying stolen items, flee the society
During the robbery, the men had wrapped the faces of the couple—Mandanmohan Agarwal and Surekha Agarwal—with cello tape. Surekha is likely to have died of suffocation. According to police sources, the trio had made off with gold and cash amounting to Rs 2 lakh.
The Tardeo police along with multiple teams of the Mumbai Crime Branch initiated an investigation. “It was challenging to collect details of the suspect, but based on technical and human intelligence, the accused was apprehended,” an officer privy to investigation said.
The husband, after the incident, told the police that the accused stole two gold chains, a wrist watch and Rs 1,500 in cash. The worth of the valuables stolen from the couple is likely much more than what has been declared, as evaluation of items stolen from across the home is left to be done, police sources said.
